CER Students

This module is designed to assist individuals that are seeking certification as a Certified Electronic Recorder.  You may be registered with our two-day course in person or via Zoom.  You will be assigned a MECRA instructor upon registration to guide you through the entire course.
NOTE:  This is a recap of the course syllabus. 
You may use the syllabus as your primary source of information.

Let's get started!

  • Step 1:  Be sure to review all of the video material first.  If you have already taken the two-day course by Zoom, then you can proceed.

  • Step 2:  Practice all of the logging material provided in the CEO Fast Track module.

    • Click here:

  • Step 3:  Log the People v Preston proceeding and email to your instructor. (Access material in the CEO Fast Track module)

  • Step 4: Go to www.typingtest.com and take a 5-minute typing test.  Email your typing score to your instructor.

  • Step 5:  Review Section 5 training video regarding format. 

  • Type the Bubble Transcript directly to the transcript template.  This will assist you in learning overall formatting before using a headset and foot pedal.

  • Complete the Margie Holds Court Free Comma Course.  (1 hr.) Submit your course completion receipt to your instructor.

  • Prepare the People v Preston Transcript. (See instructions below) 
    Your goal is to prepare and proof this transcript in less than 2.5 hours.  If may type this several times until you feel it is ready to submit.  Submit your final version to your instructor for review by email.

  • Complete the following Google Survey: 

  • Review material for the written material portion of the exam through the following link:

  • Continue to review the additional material and links at the end of this page along with the CER Advance material that is found on the Final CER/CEO answer key tab.

 Many participants have expressed difficulty with commas when taking the CER transcription portion of the exam.  You may want to take this supplemental course online. 
 

Additional training material:

We recommend that you should prepare several logs and transcripts prior to taking your exam.  Be sure to review the standards set forth in Section 4 and Section 5 of the Court Reporter Manual.

If you have never typed or logged a court proceeding, we also recommend that you attend our Typing and Logging Labs.  The hands on experience along with instruction from Certified Court Recorders (CERs) is extremely valuable.
