Type body of transcript first. (Be sure to change the first two lines to match the case/log sheet information. Use George Thomas to assist you in format. Format as you go. Write down the page numbers of all parentheticals, swearing in witnesses, etc. to assist you for your table of contents.)
Listen to the audio and proof body of the transcript. (Make corrections. Verify areas that have given you trouble.)
Type the title page. Verify the spelling of all parties. Compare to the proper case type sample in Section 5. You may use the George Thomas transcript for comparison. Remember that district court matters use (City, State) on the title page.
Type the certificate page. (Be sure to enter case information, enter the final page numbers, and your information.)
Type the table of content page last. (Use your notes that indicate page numbers.)
If you have time, review the format on all pages before printing.
Be sure to look at your printed copy for any format issues.
Foot Pedal. The foot pedal is set up as follows: Rewind --- Play --- Fast Forward
The Word template is provided at the test site along with the foot pedal. You will need to bring your own headset.
Auto fail if improper format and body of the transcript are not complete.
COMMON ERRORS:
Not typing the proper format on the title page. Examples:
26TH CIRCUIT JUDICIAL COURT (ALPENA COUNTY)
88TH DISTRICT JUDICAL COURT (ATLANTA, MICHIGAN)
Incorrect format. (See the annotated information provided by MECRA for Sections 4 and 5.
Colloquy = 15 spaces to begin and 5 spaces carryover
Q & A = Begin at left margin and 5 spaces carryover
Parentheticals = 15 spaces to begin and 15 spaces carryover
Words that need to be centered should be centered from the left margin
Two Spaces Rule = Two spaces after the colon in colloquy and two spaces after a period in a sentence. (VERY IMPORTANT)
Use the proper parentheticals in your transcript. See the annotated manual in Sections 4 and 5.
Your Honor = Honor should always be capitalized.
